More about potmanteau words. Lewis Carol coined this word in 'Through the looking glass' Humpty Dumpty used the word slithy, which is a combination of lithe and slimy and said, 'you see, it's like a portmanteau - there are two meanings packed into one word'


We now use portmanteau words all the time. The internet is full of them. In fact, the word Internet is a portmanteau word - international + network. Other internet portmanteau words include modem - modulator + demodulator, blog - web + log and netiquette - internet + etiquette. Can you think of anymore relating to the internet?
